About 10% of people at any one time are troubled at work due to concern about how they or
others deal with family, relationships, stress, anger, grief or alcohol and drug concerns.
An employee assistance programme (EAP) is designed to assist in the identification and resolution
of performance problems for employees impaired by personal concerns, including, health, marital,
family, financial, alcohol, drug, legal, emotional, stress, or other personal concerns which may
adversely affect employee job performance. Confidentiality is paramount in the employee assistance
process unless an individual gives permission for an employer to become aware or involved in
facilitating an outcome.
An organisation contracts with us to provide a range of services for their employees.
Services include consultancy and advice to management or union officials on issues of concern
about staff/peer performance plus our confidential 0800 freephone for the employees themselves
and their families to access assessment, counselling and case management.
For employees based overseas our international affiliate, Optum, has a network of
over 200 offices and agents in 73 countries around the world. It is considered one of the world's
leading EAP providers and it is the most experienced provider in Australasia.
